DOUGLAS
INSTRUMENTS
#206 Designs and manufactures the IMPAX 1-5 and Oryx 1-6 systems for automatic protein crystallization. Both systems are mainly designed to carry out crystallization by the microbatch method, although Oryx 1-6 can also perform crystallization by vapor diffusion. Microbatch has many advantages, including greater speed - and also the fact that it is truly micro - and consequently uses less protein. Recent studies have shown that microbatch finds a comparable or (in one case) a much greater number of hits than vapor diffusion in screening experiments. The company also makes miniaturized plates especially for crystallization by both vapor diffusion and microbatch. |

GILSON/CYBERLAB,
INC. #509,511 Will display their automated preparation systems for protein crystallography. The new C-240 protein crystallography workstation is designed for high throughput crystallization experiments involving rapid screening protocols. The system employs a 96-well crystallization plate that uses very low protein and well solution volumes. Customized pipetting tools and specialized accessories increase productivity and help reduce the time to determine optimum screening conditions. The C-250 can perform hanging and sitting drop vapor diffusion techniques in addition to microbatch techniques. Gilson/Cyberlab will also show their industry-standard C-200 protein crystallography workstation for rapid and custom screening protocols. |
