WK.01: Twinning & Crystals

Invited Abstracts

Room 4-5

Saturday, July 26

08:30 - 05:30 AM
Workshop Instructors: Richard Cooper, Simon Parsons and Victor Young. Part 1: Twinning. This covers the physical and theoretical background to the phenomenon of twinning, and provide an introduction to the treatment of twinned crystals. Problems of identification and indexing of twinned diffraction data will be discusses, and some hands-on examples worked through. Part 2: Modern Structure Analysis. Various issues relating to day-to-day structure analysis is presented. Most of the problems discussed can be treated with the SHELX suite of programs, but the hands-on sessions will enable participants to see for themselves an alternative no-cost program system.
