Structural Variations in the Sydnone Ring. Gordon
Riddle, David A. Grossie, and Kenneth Turnbull, Dept. of Chemistry, Wright State
Univ., Dayton, Ohio 45435.
Sydnones are, in most cases, extremely stable crystalline
compounds that exhibit a distinct polarity. Electrophilic substitution occurs on
the five – membered heterocyclic ring at the C-4 and N-3 positions. The
structural influences of placing substituents at the C-4 and N-3 positions on
the sydnone ring have been examined.
A wide range of substituents have been placed on the sydnone
ring. These molecules and their structural variations have been studied by the
use of single-crystal x-ray diffraction.
