Significant advances in structural biology over the past few years have enabled the streamlining of the entire structure determination process. The enabling technologies in bioinformatics, molecular biology, protein chemistry, diffraction data collection, and structure determination coupled with new approaches in functional interpretation that integrates information gathered along the process are posing significant challenges on data management and integrated experimental execution. The approach of data centric experimentation was conceptualized through the research and development efforts of the Joint Center for Structural Genomics and affiliated research groups. Recent results and advances in this approach will be presented.
