General Interest Group Report 2005

The Officers for the Group for the 2005 Calendar year are:

Chair: Jeanette Krause
Chair-elect: Bruce Noll
Secretary: Peter Mueller
Member-at-Large: Gary Enright

For this meeting the GIG co-sponsor the following sessions:
Etter Award session joint with YSSIG (½-day)

“Interesting Structures & Computing Techniques” full-day session with SM SIG.

Additionally, the GIG put together two ½-day sessions with the following topics:

Experimental
Technology & Methodology

It is expected that the GIG sponsor 2-3 ½-day sessions for the 2006 meeting.

It is very gratifying to see that the GIG sessions are highly attended at the annual meeting. However there is concern due to the lack of participation of the membership in the business meetings, in organizing sessions and as officers. This issue needs to be addressed in upcoming business meetings and other informal discussion groups during the annual meeting.
