SDS-Page is one of the major purity analysis methods for proteins prior to crystallization. A purified Mycobacterium tuberculosis protein was analyzed by SDS-Page. The mosaic pattern appeared during the drying process.  We know that crystals, especially protein crystals, are fragile: the fragility of this particular scientific achievement is illustrated by the broken gel. The picture was produced by scanning the dried gel.
