Out of Darkness

This circular, hand painted oil on canvas depicts the crystal structure of a peptide loop. The structure is brought out of darkness by a brilliant radiation source and superimposed onto a celestial diffraction pattern. Atoms were colored using a standard palette with blue nitrogens, red oxygens and white carbons. The original painting has a diameter of 6” and was scanned into its digital form. While this particular sequence can be found in Nature, the structure itself is fictitious. So, please don’t ask to see a Ramachandran plot, it probably wouldn’t be very good.
