Laue Patterns

Description of Image:

(2006) Photoshop modification of a Laue diffraction photo

I made the Laue x-ray diffraction photograph many years ago on a stationary precession camera mounted on a Phillips x-ray machine. I came across the film recently and scanned it into my Mac. By itself it looked to be a little boring for a non-crystallographer viewer, so I played with the image using Photoshop, introducing colors in different ways. I then made a composite arrangement as seen in the accompanying photo. The crystal used was K2SnC16 grown by me and aligned with the threefold axis parallel to the x-ray beam. I am a retired x-ray and neutron crystallographer from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
