Young Scientists SIG Report 2009

YS-SIG Social Events
1) Mentor/Mentee dinner: This was held at Forestview Chinese Restaurant on Monday night. The format consisted of a seated dinner. Round tables facilitated conversation. A mixture of mentors and mentees was ensured to be at each table. Attendance was Good.
2) YS-SIG Mixer: This year's mixer was held Sunday night in a ball room on the Sheraton grounds.
There was a lot of interaction among the attendees. Attendance was high.
YSSIG sponsored sessions
1) Professional Directions: This year's session was co-chaired by Ryan Jackson (YS-SIG chair elect) and a member of the Industrial Sig. It will focus on career development.
2) Etter Award Session: The session was chaired by Robert Huether (YS-SIG chair). The session was divided between small-molecule and macromolecular partial sessions. Everything went well with the session.
3) Refinement (Computational): The session was co-chaired by Peter Horanyi (YSSIG) and Ed Collins (BioMac). The session was well attended and will be done again at next years meeting.
YSSIG Business meeting
Approximately 10 participants attended. The meeting was chaired by YS-SIG 2009 chair Robert Huether. YS-SIG Secretary Megan Barker recorded the minutes.
1) Introductions and what we do (four events/sessions: Mentor-Mentee
Dinner; YSSIG Mixer; Professional Directions Session; Etter Early
Career Award Session).
2) The sessions that we would like to sponsor at ACA 2010 are:
Session Chair for Professional Directions session (no nominations).
Will send out email to everyone to ask for other nominations.

3) We took nominations for the next SIG elections:
- Nominations for positions opening up: Chair Elect (Jermain Davis, NCI);
- Chair (Ryan Jackson, University of Utah)
- Secretary (Megan Barker University of Toronto, 2nd year of a 2 year term);
